Keyboard Shortcuts to Speed Up Your Editing | Premiere Pro

Introduction

What’s up, guys! Today, we’re going to talk about keyboard shortcuts for Premiere Pro. However, these are not just restricted to Premiere Pro as they can easily be copied into different editing softwares: DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, etc.

These are by no means the best keyboard shortcuts, but just the ones I use to speed up my editing.

I highly recommend you learn your own or copy the ones I have so that you, too, can speed up your editing.

The goal of this is to make as many of the shortcuts accessible with the left hand so you never have to take your hand off the keyboard.

So, without further a due, let’s dive right in.

Keyboard Shortcuts

1, 2, and 3

  • 1 - Shuttle left

    • This is for scrubbing back

  • 2 - Play/pause

    • Same as the space bar

  • 3 - Shuttle right

    • This is for scrubbing to forward

Think of 1 and 2 as the fast-forward and rewind buttons. The more you push them, the faster the playhead will go in either direction.

Q, W, E, R, T

The next shortcuts are Q, W, E, and R

  • Q - Ripple Trim Left

    • This removes anything before the playhead up to the start of the clip

  • W - Add Edit

    • Adds a cut

  • E - Ripple Trim

    • The deletes anything after the playhead to the end of the clip

  • R - Ripple Delete

  • T - Track Select Forward

    • This is for moving all clips in front of the play head forward

A, S, D

  • A - Audio Gain

  • S - Speed/Duration

  • D - Enable/Diable Clip

I, O

  • I - In

  • O - Out

CMD + D, CMD + Shift + D

  • CMD + D - Default Video Transition

  • CMD + Shift + D - Default Audio Transition

Other

  • N - Nest

  • M - Marker

  • U - Link/Unlink Clip

  • Zoom Out

  • Zoom In
